The methodology used in the Networked Territories project is a finalist for the Banco do Brasil Foundation Award for Social Technology
The social technology “All Children and Adolescents in School,” used by the Networked Territories project, a partnership between Vale Foundation and “Cidade Escola Aprendiz”, is among the finalists for the Banco do Brasil Foundation Award for Social Technology.
Since 2020, the Networked Territories project has already contributed to the return to school of approximately 21,000 children and adolescents, with over 92% of students identified as out of school or at risk of dropping out being re-enrolled in classrooms. With an approach that proposes intersectoral coordination in partnership with public authorities and civil society, the Networked Territories support the guarantee of the right to education through active school outreach and the establishment of multidisciplinary policies and committees.

Since the reasons for school dropout are diverse, the Networked Territories project promotes intersectoral action among Education, Health, and Social Assistance. Among the children and adolescents identified as out of school, more than 80% are black and brown youth. Among the main factors associated with school exclusion are issues related to health and, in the case of girls between 12 and 17 years old, pregnancy. The project also works on training public agents for the formulation and implementation of policies to prevent and combat school exclusion. Over six years, the project operated in 19 municipalities across the states of Pará, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, and Minas Gerais.
The Banco do Brasil Foundation Award for Social Technology is in its 13th edition and, after 148 entries, has 30 social technologies among the finalists. From May 26th to 29th, the “Cidade Escola Aprendiz” will be in Brasília to present the experience of social technology in the Networked Territories project and other initiatives to combat school exclusion to the examining board.
The award ceremony will also include a popular vote, which will take place between May 18th and 22nd and will contribute to the final score. To vote, you need to access the Banco do Brasil Foundation website, register, and select the desired category and initiative. The award ceremony will be held on May 29th in Brasília.
