Social Protection Health Cycle Hosts Intersectoral Thematic Workshops in Itaguaí and Cariacica

In November, the Social Protection Health Cycle project conducted Intersectoral Thematic Workshops (OTI) in the municipalities of Itaguaí (RJ) and Cariacica (ES), bringing together professionals from Health and Social Assistance policies. The aim was to strengthen the integration between the Unified Health System (SUS) and the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS), promoting reflections on Social vulnerabilities, income transfer benefits, and strategies to qualify family follow-up.
The workshops were organized into four groups, ensuring the participation of representatives from all Basic Health Units (UBS) in the municipalities.

In Itaguaí, the OTI event was attended by 64 participants, representing 20 Basic Health Units (UBS), 7 Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS), and the CCTI, along with the presence of the Dara Institute, which shared the experience of the Family Reception Program, developed in partnership with Together Against Poverty from Vale.
“Intersectoral Workshops have been a moment of transforming practice, broadening professionals’ perspective on population care and the challenges related to social vulnerabilities in the territories.”
Cristiane Cabral – Undersecretary of Primary Care (Itaguaí)
In Cariacica, the Secretary of Social Assistance attended the opening. In total, 118 professionals participated, representing the 30 Basic Health Units (UBS) and the 8 Social Assistance Reference Centers (CRAS). The workshops highlighted the importance of practices aligned with each territory’s reality and reinforced the need for joint work between health and social assistance to expand care access and quality.
“Participating in a workshop like this is a moment of deconstruction and reconstruction of knowledge alongside professionals from crucial sectors such as Health and Social Assistance. […] I continue in anticipation of the continuity and strengthening of intersectoral work in our city.”
Luciano Molino Guidoni – Physiotherapist, Technical Area of Health Promotion and Men’s Health (Cariacica)
