On March 23rd, 13 municipalities participating in the Literacy Trails Project were recognized in the Gold category of the 2nd edition of the National Commitment to Literacy Seal. The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Education (MEC), aims to recognize the efforts of municipalities in formulating and implementing public policies, programs, and strategies that guarantee children’s right to literacy.

The Literacy Trails program, conducted by Vale Foundation in partnership with FGV, Roda Educativa, and municipal education departments, seeks to contribute to the full literacy of students in the early years of elementary school through: training for educators, managers, and technicians from municipal departments; and the provision of supplementary educational materials. In Maranhão, approximately 87% of the municipalities participating in the project were awarded the Seal in the gold, silver, and bronze categories.

The award ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, the Minister of Education, mayors, and municipal secretaries, as well as representatives from Vale Foundation.
