Vale Foundation’s family farming projects are highlighted in July in Maranhão and Minas Gerais

The month of July is marked by two dates that directly relate to the work of the Vale Foundation: International Family Farming Day, celebrated on the 25th, and Farmers’ Day, celebrated on the 28th. Family farming has stood out as one of the Vale Foundation’s main areas of activity in the area of Employment and Income Generation, with projects that seek to combine food and nutritional security with production for sale.

The Rural Development Center (NDR) of the Arari Knowledge Station participated, on July 25, in a fair held at the Itaparicó Environmental Park, in São Luís (MA). The initiative was promoted by the State Secretariat for Family Farming (SAF), in partnership with the State Agency for Agricultural Research and Rural Extension (Agerp) and with the support of the Arari Knowledge Station (EC Arari). During the event, the NDR donated 200 seedlings and the six producers present were able to sell products such as vegetables, fruits, legumes and ornamental plants. The opening also included the participation of the Secretary of State for Family Agriculture, Bira do Pindaré. The partnership between SAF and the Arari Knowledge Station also seeks to promote marketing spaces for family farmers.

In Catas Altas (MG), rural producers benefiting from the Frente SAN project had the opportunity to participate in the 5th Catas Altas Rural Producer Festival, on the 26th and 27th of this month, an initiative of the Municipal Government in partnership with EMATER-MG

At the event, eight producers participating in the Frente SAN project were able to exhibit their products, such as honey, vegetables, sweets, biscuits, and jams. In addition, they also participated in the 3rd Rural Food Competition. The Vale Foundation, as a partner in supporting the development of family farming in the municipality, was invited to be a judge in the competition.

Frente San and the Rural Development Center of the Arari Knowledge Station are initiatives of the Vale Foundation that aim to promote sustainable development, strengthen family farming and contribute to greater economic dynamism in the territories where Vale operates.
